You will learn several precautions and safety measures when you learn to dive.

Some of them include:

the thirds rule.  Use 1/3 of your air supply for your dive, 1/3 for your return, and 1/3 for reserve.  Follow this rule and you will never need to worry about running out of air.

You will learn to dive with a 'buddy' and learn to communicate with each other via hand signals...so you can signal your buddy that you are 'out of air' and then 'buddy share' your dive partner's air.

Another:  carry a small spare air cylinder.  I carry a "Spare-Air" tank on my chest...it will have enough to get you to the surface.

You will learn that there are many ways to solve problems that can occur underwater..all that is required is to first, remember and follow the rules you have been taught, second NEVER dive alone, third slow down, remain calm and solve the problem.
